5 Diabetes Travel Tips

Preplanning your travel definitely decreases the stress. In case of a diabetic patient, it becomes all more important. Following five tips for diabetic patients while they are traveling, is quite simple, and essential to manage their diabetes. Most importantly if they are traveling abroad, these tips becomes even more crucial.

1) Get a pre-travel check-up and ensure that your blood sugar levels, BP and even the cholesterol levels are appropriate. Getting proper shots for your visit is even essential.

2) Do not forget to wear your medical ID made for diabetes. Generally it should have the language used in the country where you will use it. As it is not possible for everyone to understand your language and if not done in the same manner it may lead to confusion.

3) Make sure you get all your medicines and glucose snacks within your reach i.e. hand-luggage, as you can not risk yourself by keeping at least your medicines in check-in luggage.

4) Arrange all your medicines in their original box with the prescription rather than shifting it in your other baggage as it will help you in avoiding any kind of misunderstanding, regarding the reason of carrying drugs and whether you are on insulin.

5) Before setting the timings on your watch, be sure of the time zone. Just note that if you are traveling towards east days will be shorter while towards the west it would be longer. Accordingly do change the timings of your medicines.

Traveling can be equally fun for diabetics too, rather than just be stressful. A bit of prior planning and intelligent approach will make the things move smoothly.
